The product was in perfect condition and works very well. Only issue I had was that shipping took FOREVER! Other than that, I'd definitely buy again from this user.

There's a small chip on the surface of the straightener that heats. It remains to be seen if this will be a problem. Also, not sure it was there when it was first opened.

Do Not Buy from Amazon.com
I purchased the GHD IV Pure Styler in Dec. 2009 from Amazon directly not a second party seller. I tried to register this on the official GHD website. The date code was not recognized - a sign that this may be counterfeit. I contacted Amazon through an email and received a very quick response. They immediately sent another styler and a label for the return of the first GHD styler. I received the replacement GHD IV Pure Styler in 2 days with high hopes. Unfortunately, the date code for the replacement was not recognized either. I had emailed GHD in both instances and had not heard back from them. After 3 phone messages and multiple attempts, I finally got a hold of a customer service representative from GHD. I was told that Amazon.com USA is NOT an authorized seller of GHD products and could NOT be registered. With the high level of counterfeits, GHD cannot authenticate the styler at this time. If you do not buy from an authorized seller/retailer GHD will assume that the GHD styler you purchased is a counterfeit and will NOT register the styler or honor the warranty. Only Amazon.com UK is an authorized seller. Confusing, I know. There are other authorized online retailers. A complete list can be heard by calling the customer service number.

I just got off the phone with an Amazon.com representative. They were very apologetic and unaware of this issue. I was sent another email with a authorized return and shipping label. I wanted Amazon to be aware of GHD's policy and the fact that the GHD products they are selling are being treated as counterfeits by GHD.

So I guess the bottom line is buyer beware. I hope this helps someone else. I read all of the reviews and was wrongly assured that Amazon.com was an authorized retailer.

It's Worth The Money Also An Amazing Investment!
I bought the "Dark set" from Amazon.com It was 5.00 vs. paying almost 0.00 which was great for me! 6 days ago I bought this item, The e-mail said it would take 10 ten to get to my house but I revived it in 6 days, That was a plus.
It was the real thing, no fakeness on this item (Again I bought it from Amazon.com not any of the other web sight stores) I LOVE IT!
My air takes (no lie) 5 min's to get straighten now Me personally, I adore this item!

Durable and AMAZING
I've owned my Sedu for 2 years now. I have droppped it countless times on my MARBLE floor, gotten it soaking wet, and brought it all over the world with me and it still works as well as it did the day I took it out of the package.

I have extremely thick, frizzy, and wavy/curly/unruly hair. The Sedu gets my hair looking straight and mirror shiny with only a few passes at my normal too-fast speed and if I take my time and do it the right way, one pass will do the job.

I do my bangs with this every morning and occasionally my whole head and it's the fastest and most effective tool I've ever used and I've used them all: hot rollers, many straight irons, the Chi, and a hairdryer and brush.

It is also very light and easy to maneuver-- you can get right next to your head without burning. The shiny black plates NEVER snag or rip your hair, it's like hardened silk.

My favorite part of all, though, it that it takes less than 2 minutes to get to its highest temperature. I get dressed and then plug it in. In the time it takes me to apply deoderant and perfume and drop my clothes in the hamper, it's ready to use.

This is a product definitely worth the investment!

It's OK
I have naturally curly Type 4 hair that I semi-relax.
I've used a chi, maxiglide(bought twice)and wigo. SEDU is was just OK. I just returned it.

What I liked:
1. Super light. MUCH lighter than Maxiglide
2. Smoothly glides over hair
3. Very fast heat up
4. I liked the size of the plates. They were more of a square shape. Made for a fast straightening time.

Cons:
1. Didn't make my hair shiny like my Tourmaline Wigo! (I'm still in shock)
2. The outside gets super hot. I mean, REALLY hot!
When I curl my hair I'll sometimes lightly hold the barrel for a sec or two.
Not with this flat iron.

I'm still on the hunt for my perfect flat iron. I want to look like i just stepped out of a salon :)

I love this straightener! I had always used cheap ones in the past and I can tell a huge difference with the Sedu. My hair has never looked straighter or healthier! The only thing I didn't like was that it doesn't have an auto off feature, but other than that, it's great.

Fantastic!! For soft, shiny, silk straight hair
To describe my hair, it is pretty curly, somewhat coarse and dry, long and frizzy. I ordered this from another website but wanted to add a review here also for anyone thinking about buying this iron. I have been dedicated to the chi for years now, since I was about 13. I've only had 2 CHIs and they lasted about 4-5 years a piece... so they still worked fairly well, I had no reason to replace them. Never had any complaints until they start getting old, the plates start to come undone and pull the hair.

So in my quest for healthier, longer hair, I decided to try the sedu because of all the wonderful reviews and before and after pics I found on the web. I'm so incredibly glad that I did because my hair feels like silk when I use this thing! The one thing I noticed that is significantly different from the CHI is the plates. The plates are so smooth, I'm really not sure how they did it. It glides through the hair like none other and feels fantastic. I don't feel like I'm frying and damaging my hair as I did with the CHI. I no longer get the ridge marks from it getting stuck and crimping, so that's a plus also. It does claim to cut time straightening in half, which is not so much true for me other than the fact that I don't have to continue straightening the same sections over and over. Once over is all I need. The ends, which are still somewhat damaged, don't feel like straw anymore. I'm not sure how that worked out, but it's very nice! My main goal was to keep my length and have it at least LOOK healthy, and this performed wonderfully to help me reach that goal.

In conclusion, my advice would be to buy it if you are looking for something new, something that will help straighten and maintain your hair until the next wash, and help it to feel silkier, softer and keep it fairly healthy, I would insist you try the Sedu. You won't be sorry!!

Broke immediately
Before I bought this product, I read all the reviews, good and bad. A few of them noted that the warranty on this product is void when bought off the internet, but I didnt listen because my last chi lasted over a year so I wouldn't need the warranty anyways! I thought it'd be worth saving the money from buying here vs. at a beauty salon...

Well, I got the chi in the mail, was very excited to use it and it worked great at first. Then, the second time using it, one of the plates wouldn't heat up! I unplugged it, waited a couple days, but it didn't ever work again. I guess in a way I was lucky this happened to me quickly so I could still return the product, but I can imagine the same thing happening after 2-3 months and that would be SO disappointing!

Despite that horrible experience, when using the product I noticed that the finger grips/button positioning/steam holes were designed for a stylist who works on someone elses hair. It was awkward to hold the correct way while working on my own hair (accidently press buttons or trap steam under my hair)
I'd recommend the more basic CHI, or a different brand all together.

I have been using the chi for many years and I was very unhappy with this particular model. My previous chi broke (which I loved) so I decided to get this newer model. Not only did it take several times to straighten my hair, it snagged the ends of my hair and the cord would continuously coil. It would take me double the time to do my hair between going over my hair several times and unraveling the cord. I decided to take it back and purchased the FHI which seems to work much, much better...

Buy the original CHI instead
Don't waste the extra $$ on this "advanced" CHI. I have tried both and the original works BETTER. This one catches in my hair, it doeen't pull through smoothly. My hair ends up with more frizz than when I straighten it with the original one (which my friend has). I didn't even attempt to straighten it wet or even damp. It doesn't do a great job on my hair dry so I'm sure wet it would be worse.

Overpriced
For all of you out there who would like to save your money for another womanly must have - don't buy the CHI! Although it works great, there is another solution. Remington "Wet to Straight" hair straightener that is the best!!! It's only $[...] - cheaper some other places too! It works great, and is durable! I had my first one for 8 years, and finally had to replace it. I almost panicked until I found it again for the same price $[...]. I don't know the shelf life of a CHI, but 30 bucks for 8 years sounds like a fabulous investment!! Keep it in mind before you make a purchase like this - especially in an economy like this!

never get hot, not for humidity!
i have wavy, dry, thick hair that goes about half way down my back and chest. i bought this iron because of it's awesome review on [...] but i wish i read into other reviews first. i don't like this iron because i feel like it never gets hot. it goes up to 420 degrees, i believe, but i feel like the plates are never hot and i need to go over certain parts of my hair four or five times. also, in a couple hours my hair starts to get wavy again. i would never recommend this iron to someone i hated! but.. the iron makes AWESOME barrel curls, which is why i give it three stars.

Works great, but only worked for 9 months
I'm hoping the 1 year warranty covers it, I really like it but am very irritated I have to send it back to the company!

DISAPPOINTED
My name is graciel and I'm of latin american and african descend. I bought my solia tourmaline ceramic ion flat iron july 2009. Since then I've used it almost twice every week. I didn't use it every day.It is a fantastic product if you have very curly hair like me. I used to relax my hair to get it straigt, but I stopped doing so, sometime before I bought my flat iron. It did a great job, until a couple of weeks a go I accidentally dropped it while I was straigtning my hair. It immediately turned of. After a while I could turn it back on without a problem. Then after a week or so it just turned of while I was using it and I haven't been able to get it to work again since then. I'm so disappointed because it realy did get my hair straight and I only had it for 5 months. The worst part is that the warranty does not apply if you buy it from amazone.

great christmas present
I purchased the Solia for Christmas from Amazon for my daughter to replace her other straightner that she was constantly burning herself with. She has yet to do that with the Solia due to no metal exposed. Her hair is straighter and smoother and much shiner. Heats in seconds and is lightweight. Works just as good when the hair is damp. She even straightens at night after her shower and can get up and go in the morning with not a lot of effort.(static free but her hair is thin) Have not found anything that she dislikes about the product and it is used everyday since Christmas 2009.

Solia Flat Iron
I have had one of these for the past 7 years and I have bought 5 more of them as gifts for special people in my life. Everyone thinks they are great. My hair is wavy and I like it straight and it does the job quickly and efficiently and my hair stays straight until I wash it again. Also, I never have static issues.

Crappy Product
I bought this flat iron in January 2009. It stopped working in January 2010 (right after the one year warranty expired, natch). For the high price, I would expect higher quality. It didn't seem to work any better than the cheap flat iron I had before this one either, and the cheaper brand lasted longer. The chi flat iron was a complete ripoff.

do not buy from Farouk!
I bought a flat iron from Farouk for my daughter two weeks before Christmas. She began to use it on December 26th. January 27th the iron surged with heat, burned my daughter's hair (so that she had to cut the fried hair off) then quit working all together. Farouk said they only guarantee their products for 30 days and too bad! They would not work with me at all to replace, refund or repair the iron. I will NEVER purchase from them again!

Paint chipped off of edges within a few days...
When I received the pink CHI flat iron it looked fake because of the color pink and the box looked cheap. Within 2-3 days of use the pink paint started chipping off of the sides where the plates are, also the on/off writing is rubbing off on the inside.I don't think a real CHI would do this... When I looked online about signs of a fake CHI, 2 out of the 5 warnings my CHI had (it did not come with a pouch and the color of the writing "CHI" is red instead of pink). I don't know 100% if it is real or fake but I'm getting a replacement because of the paint chipping off. Next time I'm ordering from a different site all together.

So far this is the best flat iron i have used! I love the color and how smooth it looks and feels. Usually, other flat irons leave me hair kinda stringy looking and not really straight.
Im african american with very thick hair-not kinky really-but just very thick! I was having the hardest time trying to get my hair straight and I didnt want to opt for a chemical relaxer cause it just messes up your hair.
So as a last resort I decided to try this chi.
The price wasnt bad so I thought Id try it.
And Im so glad I did!
I got it in the mail pretty quickly-before the promised date.
And once it arrived I flat ironed my hair and I noticed a big difference!! My hair looked so much more straighter and smoother! It looks so polished looking! and the best part is that once I straightened it with a heat protectant my hair actually stayed straight!! Usually it curls right back up even before I make it outside! It would curl back up before I got finished with my whole head! lol! but with the chi...it got really straight and stayed straight! and thats hard to find for african american hair types without saloon visits!
Also another plus is that it gets hot instantly!! within like seconds of plugging it in its hot! and it gets very hot! so if your hair is very fine and cant take alot of heat i would recommend using the chi where you can set your temperature.

The only CON is that within the first use the chi title on the sides of the flat iron scratched off. :( so from looking at it one may not think its a chi but hey...I know its one and know how it works!!
Other than that its worth the price. Im even thinking of purchasing another one that may be even better like the turbo one.
